Our Florida Lanai

My husband Kris and I are in Florida this weekend visiting my mother in Naples. I love coming here. Every time it brings back memories of my childhood with my sister. Mini golf games, sunsets at the chiqui bar, the Gobstoppers that made our tongues bleed at the candy store in Tin City, Ben & Jerry's ice cream cones at Venetian Village and of course the endless hours we spent being dragged around from lighting store to furniture store while my mom decorated the perfect 1990's Florida condo. Full of peach and blue, I'm sure it was a 90's designer's dream! I have to say that at the time I loathed all the decorating, but it must had had an effect on me since that's what I do now for a living!

Flash forward to the 2010's ..... It was time to make a change. And change it did. My mother did a supreme job of transforming the entire condo (fortunately without having to drag two young children around this time). It's a freshly designed space totally magazine worthy. Today I want to put the spot light on my favourite part - the lanai, where we spend most of our time when not out shopping, dancing or relaxing at the beach. Here are a few pics to show how this Florida lanai is far from traditional Florida boring and tired. Young Naples at its best. And we are now enjoying it to it's fullest!

Can anyone tell me why it's called a Lanai? And what the origin is?
